1. Choosing the right room
Euroexam online tests last 2-2½ hours (depending on the level), so it is important that your chosen room is comfortable, well-lit, and where you will be free from distractions both inside and outside the room. On Exam Day, before the exam starts the invigilator will ask you to show him or her all around your room starting from the door - which must be closed for the duration of the exam - and circling around until you return to the door to make sure that you are alone in there.
2. Equipment
It is important that you make sure all computer equipment and connectivity is working properly no later than 7 days before the exam (see Euroexam Online Timeline). In particular, you should ensure your smartphone or tablet can be set up according to the requirements. If necessary, ask someone to help.
You will need:
- a PC computer with mouse or touchpad (primary device);
- reliable internet access (cable or wifi)
- microphone, speakers and webcam - built-in or externally connected to your computer;
- a smart phone or tablet with camera (secondary device) - should be and plugged-in and on charge
- a stand for the smart phone or tablet (can be homemade – see below for a range of suggestions)
- extension cord (if needed)
3. Software Set Up
The Euroexam Online Exam Software
1 or 2 days after you have registered for Euroexam Online, we will send you an email with a link to the Exam Software, your username and password. Download the Exam Software to the computer on which you will take the exam immediately after you receive the email. Once downloaded, you will find sample test material in the software, which will not only help with your preparation for the exam, but will also help you become familiarised with the look and feel of the Euroexam Online Exam interface.
Download the Zoom app
You will also need to download the Zoom app to your smart ‘phone. We recommend you do this at the same time as you download and set up the Euroexam Online Exam Software.

4. What can be on your desk?
The only items allowed on your desk during the exam are:
- your ID*,
- your computer (with keyboard, mouse, webcam, microphone),
- 3 pieces of completely blank A4 note paper,
- a pen,
- a bottle of water or soft drink,
- a chocolate bar (or one other snack),
- tissues,
- a paper dictionary,
- a table lamp – if necessary.
*Your ID document must be on your desk throughout the exam because the online invigilator may ask to check it at any time.
THE USE OF A HEADSET, HEADPHONES OF EARPHONES IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING THE EXAM
5. How to set up your smartphone (secondary device)
For the duration of the exam your smartphone must be set up in landscape orientation to provide a clear image of:
- you sitting at your exam desk
- your exam desk and
- your computer screen.
It is best to lean your smartphone forward on a shelf or a stand 1.5-2 meters away from your exam table. It should be 1.3–1.5 meters off the ground, which is around 30 cm above shoulder height if you are in sitting.
Once you’ve tried the distance and position, you’ll see that you will need to tilt your smartphone forward by 10-15 degrees so that you, your desk, and your laptop can show up on the screen. To do this, you will need a holding device with which you can support your mobile in the right place and position. Here are some ideas:
The easiest way to do this is to use a smartphone stand. If you don’t have one, here are some suggestions of how you can make a temporary mobile phone holder from virtually anything.
Your smartphone must be fully charged at the beginning of the exam and have sufficient battery capacity for 2-2.5 hours of camara usage. We recommend you keep it on charge during the exam.
Technical Workshop
Finally, after you have followed the 5 steps above and set up your equipment and prepared your room, 3-5 days before Exam Day, we will send you instructions to attend a Technical workshop via Zoom, which you must attend.
The Technical Workshop will last 15-30 minutes during which time Euroexam Technical staff will check with you that your equipment (primary and secondary devices) is properly working and your room is set up correctly and complies with the Euroexam Online regulations. If necessary, we will help you with any issues. It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
It is important to remember that you can only take the exam in the room and with the equipment set up that has been checked and approved during the Technical Workshop.
